Electrical Cord Ends
Electrical cords are not always cooperative when it comes to conducting power to the equipment that we want to use. Sometimes, the prongs of the plug are able to make contact with the inner conductive surfaces inside an extension cord or a wall outlet. This is mostly due to a malformed outlet where the outer plastic body of the receptacle holds the prongs of the plug away from the conductive contact surfaces. It may also be caused by bent prongs of the plug which happens when the plug is crushed by or hit sideways by furniture when it is plugged in.
Typically, you know you have a problem when the device you have plugged in turns on and off when you wiggle the cord or, the plug fits loose inside the receptacle. In either case, this can lead to arcing and sparking inside the receptacle and heating. If this is left for long periods of time, it may result in electrical fire!
